“The demands on biogas units are so different across Italy that one does not get far with standardised modular solutions”, explains Uwe Heider shortly after signing the agreement. “We at BD Agro can provide systems that effectively produce biogas from wastes, slurry, olive residues, citrus peal and other exotic materials”, according to Heider. In addition to running biogas units with the Big Dutchman subsidiary for farmers, cooperatives and industrial customers, “abn” wants also to build and operate units itself. The first projects have already started. While the Italians benefit from the transfer of knowledge to develop another business area, BD AGRO sees this as an entry to the Italian market. “abn has broad access to all agricultural market sectors –including beyond Italy’s borders” says the second in command in BD AGRO, Jürgen Spille explaining the strategic advantage of the agreement. “In service, assembly and logistics, the cooperative’s companies can help us greatly on the ground”. Under the “abn”, more than 2500 staff work in about 40 companies. The renewable energy (“Green Technologies”) branch has been given the highest priority. An example: in this year alone “abn” has exceeded its own target of 1000 solar roofs three fold. |
