Can food and biogas production be reconciled?  This question was the title of a seminar hosted by the Lower Saxony Agricultural Working Group of the CDU Youth and the Vechta branch of the CDU.  BD AgroRenewables (BD Agro) hosted about 40 participants from right across Lower Saxony in Vechta-Calveslage at a seminar to consider aspects of biogas development.  Alongside Dr Stephan Siemer, the CDU member of the Lower Saxony parliament Clemens große Macke took part in the intensive exchange of views.

Practical aspects were not overlooked:  To get the seminar off the ground, participants visited a biogas unit to become familiar with the technology.  After that, the meeting continued at the headquarters of the Big Dutchman Group.  Uwe Heider, the head of BD AGRO, presented the subsidiary of the world leading producer of modern livestock technology and led discussion about the role of biogas in the Lower Saxon economy.  The extent to which biogas was competing against food production for agricultural land was also a topic of discussion.  The informative event ended with a discussion about the future of farming for energy.
