The contract partners aim to have all units installed by 2009. The new sites total a capacity of over 20 megawatt (20 MWel) and will produce enough to supply 50,000 households with ‘green electricity’. The decentralised heat will be used de-centrally. The residue of the biogas process will be used mostly as a high value fertiliser on field crops. The total investment in these projects runs to about 100 M Euro according to Biostrom.
“The demand for energy systems based on non-food crops remains intact“ says the head of Biostrom Günter Schlotmann explaining the decision to award the contract to Calveslage. “In BD Agro, we have an established reliable and tested partner to realise these projects”. It was not, according to Schlotmann, the first undertaking that both partners realised together.
“We regard the order as confirmation of our core competence as well as a great challenge that we are pleased to take on” said the head of BD Agro Uwe Heider commenting optimistically on the multi-million contract: “That is a solid basis for planned future activity outside Germany on the part of BD Agro und biostrom”.
Biostrom Energiesysteme GmbH & Co. KG is a subsidiary of the BKN Biokraftstoff Nord AG, and is specialised in developing and operating biogas units. Through operating branches, the company develops, plans and realises biogas projects across Germany, especially in East Germany.
BD Agro covers all services in the planning, construction and technical supervision of biogas units using fermentable field crops and residues from livestock (slurry) to produce electricity and heat.
